The Redwood High School Community prepares for their week-long Thanksgiving break.

From November 21st to the 25th, Rangers will have a week-long break in honor of Thanksgiving.

Rangers are excited to continue their traditions and spend time with their families and friends during the holiday season.

Mrs. Mieke Howell, who teaches freshmen English, says she is excited for the break and to have the chance to celebrate her favorite holiday.

Even though she does not participate in any traditions, her family all comes together to celebrate a traditional Thanksgiving. Later on, she attends a friends giving, which she says is an annual thing among her friend group.

Thanksgiving is one of Howell’s favorite holidays because there is no drama concerning presents like on Christmas, “If the kid doesn’t get the gift that they want then their grumpy, then I kinda want to smack them because I think they are being selfish but with thanksgiving everyone can just get together and eat food.”

Howell says she loves the holiday altogether, but especially the food. “I love stuffing,” she says.

Nathan Webster, ‘26 says he is excited because family from both sides are going to visit and bring their pets. Webster says, “We are starting the tradition again because of Covid.”

During the Thanksgiving dinner, Webster is in charge of cutting the turkey. “My favorite part of thanksgiving is cutting the turkey because it is always something I have done,” he says.

After the pot luck feast, Webster says that he and his family have a tradition of jumping into the pool. He says his favorite part of the break is “probably eating because [he] eat[s] a lot over thanksgiving break.”

Nicholas Ramirez, ‘25 says he is excited to be going out of town for break since last year was his first time.

As a member of band, Ramirez says he is happy to celebrate with “some of the band kids…to get together and do a friends-giving.”

Eli Bradshaw, ‘24 has a tradition of playing football with all of his family and people from his church.

Bradshaw says his favorite part of the Thanksgiving break is “seeing my siblings since they all have moved away and I get to see them again.”

He says his favorite dish is made by his mom, “My mom makes this home made sweat potato casserole and it’s really good. It sounds really gross, but it is actually really good.”

Miyah Guzman, ‘23 has a tradition where she rolls prizes in a saran-wrap ball and passes it around trying to unravel the gifts.

Guzman is planning on doing a friends-giving, which will be her second year participating in one. As for family plans, she says that she is planning on visiting her aunt’s house with family and eating food.

Guzman says her favorite part of thanksgiving is “ being with my family but the food is amazing as well.”  Her favorite Thanksgiving dish is the mashed potatoes.

She says that the break is a well needed time for people to “get recharged to the point where you are ready to go back to school.”

The Redwood Gigantea Staff wishes you a safe break and Happy Thanksgiving!
