The Log Assembly took place on Friday May 19th, in the gym at Redwood High School.
This assembly is to share the cover and theme of the yearbook for the year, and say goodbye to the seniors.
This tradition has been participated in for many years.
The yearbook team, video class, and Ms. Baraba-Tepper is in charge of getting the event all together.
Mr. Feehan, the yearbook advisor has been at Redwood for 14 years total, this year being his 12th year teaching yearbook.
When asked about his role as yearbook advisor Feehan says, “I teach the kids how to make the yearbook I walk them through the whole process on how to capture all the moments throughout the year and putting them into the book.”
Feehan pushes the students towards the best that they can do, to create an amazing yearbook.
Feehan has been helping in the log assembly ever since he started at Redwood even the year before because he knew he would be the advisor for the next year.
This year’s three chief yearbook editors presented the theme of the yearbook and some of the awards.
Going into the assembly there is not too much planning because at this point it is down to a science.
There are certain big elements that yearbook captures in this assembly such as recognizing seniors that are out bound and recognizing some of the staff that have really contributed to the school.
When talking about planning the big things for the Log assembly Feehan says, “the videos are one of the biggest things to prepare which is meant to be a nostalgic goodbye to all the seniors.”
The video planning started last semester as they wanted to make sure the video was done right.
Also at the assembly there was a hand-off between all of the presidents to the new and upcoming presidents.
“The difference between a rally and an assembly is when you can say wow look at this” Feehan says.
Yearbook doesn’t have much to plan for the assembly, just working on making sure the yearbook is done on time and set in stone.
The yearbook crew strives to be as close to perfection as they can get it because there is no revision once it’s printed and it’s there forever.
Feehan says, “People can pull it off the shelves in 50 years from now and we still don’t want them to pull something embarrassing off the shelves after 50 years.”
The chief editors of the yearbook staff are in charge of presenting the yearbook, and some of the awards at the assembly.
The assembly is significant to Feehan because, “I try to use the assembly to represent Redwood the best that we can and something memorable.”
The staff dedication award is typically 4 or 5 staff members who students wanted to recognize in the yearbook.
Both this year and last year this is the only assembly in the gym, Feehan says “it feels weird I don’t love it. I wish that the student body had been able to have at least one more.”
This year the yearbook sales are more advanced than last year, usually at log night Mr. Feehan would have 180-200 yearbooks to sell they would sell about half of them this year Mr. Feehan only has 28 yearbooks to sell.
There will only be a dozen to sell at Log night and they can only be bought with cash.
Log night is Tuesday May 23rd where yearbooks will be handed out.
This event starts at 5:00pm for seniors and starts at 6:00pm for everyone else the event will go until 7:30. There will be food trucks. People can bring a blanket or lawn chairs and find a spot around campus and just sign yearbooks.
