Hayden Estermann, ’22 is one of the many students around campus who have started a small business while also balancing school. Estermann’s work consists of selling boxes of chocolate-covered sweet treats that could be used as a present for any special occasion.
At the start of 2021, Estermann decided to start her business and named it “Hays Sweet Treats.” Estermann says, “These chocolate treats were something I wanted to start making for a while. They are fun, easy, and something I can put my own touch on.”
As for the cons regarding her sweet treats business, she says, “Since I’m handling foods, it’s not something I can make and let sit. It’s very time-consuming even though it may not seem like it.” Having to deal with selling foods or even desserts is something that is overlooked because you do have to take your time, be precise, and put your best effort in.
“There’s nothing better than the feeling of positive feedback and seeing how satisfied my customers are with their order, but I also love constructive criticism because I know what to add and take off,” states Estermann. For being young and just now starting off in the business world, it is very mature to understand constructive criticism, and how well the business will turn out in the end.
Estermann sells these boxes for $20. They include a breakable heart that you can customize, chocolate-covered strawberries, rice crispy treats, and pretzels and Oreos that are shaped as roses that are all dipped in chocolate. The boxes are all customizable to the customer’s taste.
