This 23’ and 24’ school year is still fresh, and Mr. Harris, the studio art teacher, would like to share a few words about what his classroom will be working on in the art department this year.

Mr. Harris is beloved by his students for his eccentric energy and positive attitude. He has devoted his life to teaching his students about how important and fun art can be.

He says “I’ve been teaching art for twelve years. I’ve been teaching overall 23 years.”

He’s been teaching art for more than half his teaching career. Unknown to many, Mr. Harris wasn’t always an art teacher his whole 23 years of teaching.

“I use to teach Ap US History, Ap Government, and We The People Constitution, and Speech and Debate.”

His dedication to teaching art shows his devotion to this subject. He wants his students to have the same passion and love for art as he does himself.

Mr. Harris has some plans and goals for his students this school year. He wants his students to get accustomed to his classroom goals and expectations.

“First semester is all the basics of art called the elements of art and then we do points, lines, shapes, forms, colors, value, texture, space.”

Every one of his students will be starting from scratch. His students will get to experience their first semester of art with Mr. Harris. But there’s more to come next semester.

“Second semester we teach them how to paint and they do principle of designs which are balanced, contrast, emphasis, movement, pattern, rhythm, and unity.”

During the second semester his students are going to the next level of art like a video game. There’s so much more to explore.

Mr. Harris says “I don’t know if it is always beautiful… Art can be really ugly or beautiful if you want.”
