The years 2018 and 2019 have been hard, filled with excitement, but most importantly filled with memories. From Homecoming to Cowhide, there have been many ups and downs but through it all, students haven chosen to move on and make every moment one to remember.

Chris Hernandez ’19, loved this past year at Redwood as he got to be involved in many events and felt all the spirit that was brought to the table. Out of every rally and event, Hernandez’ favorite was “Cowhide because it is one of best the best traditions Redwood has and it is the most involved with dress up days.” There are many opportunities to take to be included in school activities such as Club Day. Hernandez adds ” In my freshman and 90% of my sophomore year, I did nothing except band, but know I am apart of ASB and Link Crew.” As for the whole year, Hernandez believes it was a “breeze, not stressful, and pretty laid back.”

Spirit is what Redwood is all about; showing love to our school. From rallies to football games everyone goes all out to show their pride. That pride is most shown during Homecoming, Cowhide, Battle of the sexes, and Love week. Homecoming had the theme of All Roads Lead To Redwood, which has the meaning that no matter where a student is; they will always come back to Redwood because it is home. Homecoming is also when clubs get to make their floats and show off what their club is all about. The dress up days consisted of going to Hollywood, the country, and the beach.

To wrap up the week, the Homecoming court, Jill Nelsen, Brianna Lopez, Molly Collins, Makenna Haskill, and Kaylee Gallardo enjoyed the activities, dressing up, and all the fun games they were able to partake in. But after voting and campaigning, Molly Collins received the overall title of this year’s Homecoming Queen. Also, another highlight of the year included Mr. Ranger week which involved many “sweet” activities and dress up days including “Nerd day, outer space dress up, and ending with another spirit day. The nominees for Mr. Ranger were Bryan Trejo, Alex Garrett, Dylan Rivera, Jason Hruby, and Chris Hernandez. After a ton of fun and lots of spirit, the week ended with a Mr. Ranger Talent Show and Bryan Trejo won the overall 2019 title.

Cowhide has been around for 64 years, it is the most spirited, hyped, and one of the most traditional times out of the whole year. It also has one of the best rallies because it is all about getting energized for the big game. As for the dress up days, everyone goes all out, especially on Friday since it was Spirit Day and everywhere you looked, there was blue. Sadly, the hide has stayed at Whitney for the past two years, but many have hope that next year the hide will be back where it belongs, of course at Redwood.

Love week’s purpose to to enhance the idea of being kind to each other, appreciating the people in your life, and showing you love for the school itself. Not to forget that is also the time for Valentine’s day; where cupid comes to play. These dress up days mostly were to be participated with partners and one where students would dress up as their dating states. Battle of the Classes recently took place at Redwood as the Juniors and Sophomores take the win again from last year. The battle was between juniors and sophomores vs. the Seniors and Freshmen; the rally got wild as both teams compete against each other with the games of: rock, paper, scissors, musical chairs, dance battle, and a scavenger hunt.

As for the music, Orchestra, Band , and Choir did a phenomenal job this year. With all three of orchestras groups, chamber, advanced, and intermediate winning superior at the CMEA’s, scoring high in the 90’s, doing a fabulous job. Following with Orchestra, Band also performed at the CMEA’s, finishing with an excellent in advanced and a superior in Wind Ensemble.

The years of 2018-2019 were ones to remember specifically for the Seniors as it wrapped up their final high school days. Although they will be leaving to focus on a new journey in their life, they will always remain Rangers at heart.
