The Redwood Women’s Soccer Team has discovered a way to not only promote the team but also to recognize their amazing players.

Mr. Vieira, the Womens Soccer head coach, runs the entire page for Instagram. He says, “It can be time consuming, but I’ve got pretty efficient at getting them done.”

He says, “I spend a couple hours a week on Canva messing around with design ideas.” Once Vieira finds the idea of the design he wants to create, it’s pretty easy from then on.

Posting on social media can also help promote their games as well. Vieira says, “People see our social media posts, whether they’re game day announcements or highlights from a previous game and it helps them stay up to date on our soccer program and how our season is going.”

Vieira doesn’t post just for the program, he wants to highlight all the amazing student-athletes.

He says, “We have some pretty incredible soccer players in our program, and I feel like one of my jobs as the coach is to showcase their talents. Social media gives me a vehicle to show what they can do.”

Vieira says he’s a naturally competitive person which is why he is the forefront of what they do on social media.

He says, “It’s why I started doing a media day so we get top-quality photographs for our posts, and now it seems like every soccer team does their own media day.”

Avery Yagle, ’26, is a returning varsity player. She says, “Media day definitely gets us hyped. The feeling of taking action shots in our new uniforms is truly an exciting moment.”

She says, “Obviously girls soccer has continuously won for many years, but we don’t get as much hype as other sports, so this helps draw eyes.”

Yagle adds, “I definitely think posting helps in a whole because of the excitement of just seeing ourselves on the soccer page.”

Lexi Rico, ’25, is another returning player on varsity. Rico says posting on social media, “Helps to promote girls soccer more.”

She says, “It helps get our name out there to bring people in and get more sponsors.” Rico adds, “Posting allows us to inform people of our games and get bigger crowds to cheer us on.”
