Music is and will always be a big part of Redwood’s culture. It not only brings people together but gives students the opportunity to learn and perform at their very best potential. Redwood now has a new drum major that will surely lead the band to success; so who is this successful student? Jacqueline Marquez ’21 is the talented musician ready to take the lead.

Jacqueline Marquez ’21

Marquez is very experienced when it comes to music. She plays three instruments which include the flute, piccolo, and guitar. Marquez feels fit for the position because she has been involved in the music community since she was in 4th grade.

Marquez is confident and excited to fulfill the role of the drum major; her enthusiasm and growth as a musician will surely impact Redwood’s band.

Although becoming the drum major is a very exciting role, it comes with responsibilities and many challenges. Marquez admits to the struggles she has faced throughout this year and during the summer, “It is a lot of work and stress because everyone looks up to you 24/7.”

Marquez has already learned ways to solve certain issues that may arise, “with communication and by paying attention to everyone.” Struggles are only a minor problem for Marquez because music is a very strong passion of hers.

Other students involved in band agree that Marquez will be a very crucial part of the band’s success. Jackson Ford, ’22, is a student that also has a passion for music and is looking forward to seeing how Marquez leads the band in her own style. Ford believes that Marquez, “is very hardworking and she is filling the role well.”

Redwood can’t wait to see Marquez conduct the band and lead it with her own unique style and passion. Marquez believes she is ready to “set an example for our band and lead…I love it.” Come support band to see how Marquez leads it to success!
