This year, Redwood brought back the tradition of having a car show on campus which took place Friday, April 22. Students were invited to bring their cars onto campus and show what they had to offer.
The judges of the competition were chosen by auto students recommended by Mr. Cox, Redwood’s auto teacher, and the winners fell into the next categories.
“Best Overall”: Seth Lopez, ‘23 1970s Chevy C/10
Lopez says, “It feels great to win. I was a little nervous thinking I wouldn’t after seeing some amazing cars come in, but I am just glad to be part of the tradition.”
Lopez’s Chevy was bought by his grandpa and passed down from generation to generation until it was eventually passed down to him. He was very excited to bring his truck after seeing the Instagram post regarding the Car Show.
“Most Unique”: Cherish Smith, ‘22 Volkswagen Beetle 2006 Convertible
Smith says, “I love my car, it’s a very cute car. I knew that there was gonna be a lot of other classic cars, so I thought it could be like a cool twist to bring a beatle.”
“4×4”: Mr. Coon and his Ag Mechanics class 1974 Jeep CJ5
“I just wanted the kids to get some recognition for how hard they’ve been working on it,” Coon says.
The jeep that Coon and his students built has been modified for around 10 years by students. He expresses that there has been a lot of hard work put into the car this year.
“Hot Rod/Lowrider”: Colin McCowan, ‘22 1961 Ranchero
“I thought it would be cool to bring something nobody has ever seen before,” McCowan says.
He has had the car almost all his life, he and his dad have worked on it together since he was younger.
“At Least I Have a Car”: Roamie Galley, ‘24 and her blue car
“I thought it was funny, so I thought I’d bring it,” Galley says.
She is glad that she won with the car that she got from her neighbor.
