Girls varsity tennis kicked off their season against Bakersfield Christain and Stockdale High School on Friday, August 27th and Saturday, August 28th.

According to spectator rules regarding COVID-19, only immediate family members were permitted to watch the girls play during their matches.

Overall, the Redwood girls tennis team succeeded against Stockdale High School, but took a loss against Bakersfield Christain.

“I played a doubles and a singles match at the tournament and I felt good about the way I played in both, despite losing doubles,” says Reese Ainley, ‘22, keeping a positive attitude for the Varsity team.

COVID-19 is playing a prominent role in how sports seasons continue. More and more students are testing positive for the virus. Jocelyn Arrelano, ‘23 believes, “This future season is going to be great because everyone has been training hard.” The girls are wanting to play and are ready for more matches!

“Something I can do to improve my playing is to always keep a positive mindset,” says Arrelano. Especially with the ambiguity surrounding sports in the future with COVID-19, having positive thoughts is what everyone hopes to see.

The girls varsity tennis team has put their dedication into obtaining more wins for their future matches. Regardless of winning or losing, “Everyone is doing great so far,” says Arrelano. Confidence is key for having a successful season, as the girls are doing just that!
