Daniella Vallejo ‘24 shares how she got into nursing and how she plans to further herself.

Throughout high school, different interests are gained and eventually, students are able to get a glimpse of what they want to do in the future.

Daniella Vallejo ‘24 gained interest in the medical field as a sophomore and took the opportunity to talk to her counselor about her future nursing goals.

Her counselor suggested she should enroll herself in the certified nursing assistant group, “I’m currently taking this CNA class to figure out if the medical field is more me,” says Vallejo.

As time progresses she enters the second semester of her nursing class. “It’s the second semester and I feel more confident when my group and I meet up at clinics.”

One class she attends during the week is theory. She says, “Theory is a class where we learn new modules and practice the different skills.”

When she goes to nursing twice a week she attends to patients and strives to give them the best care possible. Vallejo says, “I do a lot of brief changes throughout the time I’m there, when dinner comes around 5 pm I usually get assigned a room to feed a resident.”

She says, “I enjoy giving the best patient care and helping. I have good intentions when it involves meeting new people or helping people.”

The different patients give her a chance to gain experience and enjoy what she does.“They are just so sweet, they don’t really have anybody that comes to visit, so once a week we kind of go through rooms to give them company and reassurance,” says Vallejo.

Being able to do something you are passionate about feels amazing especially when it comes naturally. She says, “The easiest part is when I interact with patients because when I interact with them it’s never forced, I naturally can comfort people.”

Apart from doing what she enjoys, the nursing home reassures her stability in the future, “the nursing home can offer you a good paying job after high school or once you turn 18”

Vallejo says,“Out of high school, I will probably be working at the nursing homes and then go to school to get my bachelor’s degree in RN and then become a travel nurse”
