The Redwood High School football team is returning with their first game of the season this Friday.
Coming off a losing record last year going 4-6 and finishing third in the WYL [West Yosemite League], the Rangers are hopeful for a big action pact season transitioning to the EYL [East Yosemite League].
A couple of key players are coming back this year with big success this past season. Some include outside linebacker Evan Gonzalez ’23 as well as returning quarterback Francisco Alvarez ’23.
Along with the returning players, there are a few key new players that should be watched closely for a possible breakout season. One of those players is running back Alex Perch ’24.
Last year, Perch was a backup for star running back Karson Everet ’22. Towards the end of the year, he obtained playing time filling in for Everet, who was out for an injury.
Perch looks promising, rushing for a total of 280 yards for the entirety of last season.
Another player to look out for is middle linebacker Noe Viveros ’23.
Last year, Viveros led the whole team in sacks with a total of 98 on the season.
A returning starter, Viveros looks to be a promising, deadly force on the Ranger offense this year.
The final player viewers should look out for is Moses Burk ’24. Burk is a returning player this year, having a promising rookie season last year.
Burk averaged over 10.8 yards per carry, which was over the team average last season. Burk should be the answer for the star receiver Ashton Ibarra ’22 graduating last year.
The Rangers play the first game of the season against Centennial High School in the Mineral King Bowl.
