With the 2026 dive season about to begin, Coach Guy Woodard shares how he is preparing Redwood’s team. Woodard says that he has been building up a structured plan that focuses on fundamentals, consistency, and progression across the group.
Woodard says, “I’m reviewing last season’s performances to identify areas for improvement and designing practices that maximize board time and athlete development. I’m also communicating with returning and incoming divers to set expectations early and build a strong team culture centered on accountability and growth.”
Woodard says that his goal is to ensure that the team has a prepared, confident and unified season.
Woodard highlights some athletes people should keep an out. He says, “Jaxson Roebuck is definitely someone to watch. This is his second year diving, and he already has a strong foundation with a lot of untapped potential, he has the ability to be a top Valley contender.”
“We also have two first-year divers, sophomore Peyton Javaux and freshman Ben Christensen, who are both impressive athletes. As they continue to develop and refine their skills, they’re going to make a big impact.” Woodard says.
This is also Woodard’s first year coaching dive for Redwood. He has been a diver for seven years, starting off coaching for club teams in Visalia.
Through that experience, Woodard discovered a real passion for helping young divers develop and build strong, competitive programs.
Woodard says, “When the opportunity opened up at Redwood High School, it felt like the right fit. Redwood’s culture of discipline, pride, and competitive excellence aligned with my coaching philosophy.”
“I wanted to be part of a program that holds high standards and pushes athletes to be their best.” Says Woodard.
