Through April 27th, and May 1st, ASB (Associated Student Body) is holding election week for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year.

Candidates are posting on their personal social media, posting posters on campus, and getting their friends to help to make sure they get voted for.

Samantha Sanchez, ’27, is running for ASB’s secretary, as well as Randy Hans Velasco, ’27.

Sanchez says that, “in this position, you take notes at the meetings, and you also handle finances, like approving all the finances. Like, it goes hand in hand with treasure, and then you have to take notes on what the students want, and make sure that those notes are, like, seen in the exact meetings and stuff like that.”

Velasco says that a reason why he ran for secretary is because he thrives with working behind the scenes, and helping others.

“So I think the best position that would benefit, not only the school, but it would help me impact more stuff in the school was [running for] secretary.” He says.

Sanchez says, “I chose to run for secretary, because I want the students to be heard, and I want them to have, like, an opinion on what we do in class, and I think I would make a good candidate.”

Sofia Zambada, ’28, says the reason why she chose to run for social media coordinator is because she’s very passionate about social media. She says, “In general, I run the RHS 2028 account on Instagram, I started that account my freshman year,”

“I also ran for this position last year. So, I kind of already got the sense that this is something I want to do, and I’m very involved in ASB, specifically in that committee, so that’s why I decided to run for it,” Zambada says.

With trying to make sure every vote counts, Zambada says that she has been posting on social media and making posters to hang around campus.

“I made a few posters, but I mainly campaigning on social media, because it is the position of social media coordinator [that I’m running for], and obviously, just going around and telling my friends to vote for me on Friday.” Zambada says.

Sanchez says that for her campaign, she has been putting up posters around Redwood and making a lot of TikTok videos and Instagram post.

With going into a new school year, some people might want to change things for a fresh start, but Zambada says that she doesn’t think that there is anything that she wants to change, but she does want to bring more inclusivity here at Redwood.

She says, “I think the biggest thing I want to bring, like, to [school] is the inclusivity at Redwood. I want more people to show up to our events, and I want there to be something for everybody at Redwood, and hopefully, with social media, we can do that, and spotlight some more events to bring more people to them.”
