The Redwood Rangers softball team took on the maroon school from down the street last Tuesday, April 19, at home. The game started at 4:15pm where the Rangers scored ten runs during the course of the game.
Redwood’s head coach, Stevie Johnson, says coming into this game they were trying to start a winning streak after falling short the two previous games. She said, “We wanted to take our game with Mt. Whitney to get us back on track for the second half of league.”
The Rangers took the field being they were the home team and with shout of “play ball” the game was underway. When the Rangers came up to bat during the first inning they were ready to play with the first batter reaching base. A couple of big hits gave Redwood an early lead over the Pioneers 4-0.
During the top of the scond inning, Mt. Whitney scored their first and only run in the game with a double to left field scoring the runner that was on first. When the Rangers came back up to bat they were itching to get that run back scoring on a wild pitch and a big hit by Kylie Maurice, ‘22 driving in two runs extending their lead to 7-1.
When the Rangers came up to hit in the bottom of the third, they were not satisfied with their lead knowing they must extend. With one out, Seneca Sowers, ‘22 came up to bat and roped a double to right field scoring two runners. Sowers then scored on a wild pitch extending their lead over Mt. Whitney 10-1 in the bottom of the third inning.
During the rest of the game, Redwood managed to hold the Pioneers to one and couldn’t score anymore. The final out was recorded in the seventh inning the Rangers with over Mt. Whitney 10-1.
The girls’ next game is Tuesday against Golden West at 4pm and Thursday at home against the Bullpups from Hanford.
