Should rain affect one’s want for photos or perhaps a fun activity? In my opinion, rain has no affect on having a good time. As long as you have a decent camera and a photogenic landscape you should be good to go.

Recently it has been raining a lot, and Neftaly Gonzalez ’21 reached out to me by expressing she wanted to do a photo shoot. Obviously I agreed, but what I didn’t realize was that it was going to be pouring that day.

I met her at Mooney’s Grove Park thinking that it would be really pretty because of all of the trees turning colors and mountains in the background. While it was a pretty landscape, it was also muddy and raining. Thinking quickly I grabbed an umbrella and held it the entire time.

Now as you can imagine holding an umbrella and a camera at the same time was challenging but completely worth it. When the rain decided to take a break that is when we took the most pictures, but nonetheless rain or shine we tried our best.

So to answer the question, pictures in the rain do not need to be all dark and gloomy, especially if you use the right lighting or flash that gives the illusion of being a brighter, happier day. Moral of the story, don’t let the weather limit your experiences .
