On March 25th, many Redwood students returned to in person learning on an am/pm track schedule. Since March 13th, 2020 many current Seniors have not yet stepped onto the Redwood campus for over a year. With the coronavirus pandemic it has been challenging adapting to new ways of learning, however senior rangers shared their perspectives on the new social distanced Redwood.

Being accustomed to fully distanced learning, made in person learning more nerve racking for some Redwood Rangers. Annemarie Lawrence ’21 going into in-person learning was “anxious for the accommodations” that would come with classroom learning, because of the pandemic. The thought of the new normal made Lawrence nervous for what was to come.

Lawrence says that she was looking forward to “catch up with people” and have more social interactions. After attending school Lawrence states that she was “grateful to have the opportunity to spend the last couple months of her senior year” in person with her teachers and friends.

Peter Nunez ’21 was extremely excited to return to school, because “Redwood is our home and it is such a weird experience being away from it for so long.” Nunez wants to have “fun” and be involved in more things since there are more activities available. After returning to school, Nunez was really happy that he was able to “ask more questions and have more conversations” with his teachers.

Social anxiety has increased among Redwood seniors, because of the year long break. Perla Lopez’21 expresses that she is “nervous to go back” because she feels as if she “doesn’t know how to talk to people anymore.” Those feeling quickly subside, because after Lopez’s first in person day she stated ” that it was super nice to see people, and I actually had more fun than I thought I would.”

Overall, Redwood seniors have enjoyed the return to school, and are hopeful for more in person activities to come.
