Abby Hillan, ’19

Abigail Hillan, ‘19, has been at Redwood for her whole high school experience. She has become a key athlete for her softball team. Abby balances softball and AP classes, and we interviewed her to see how she managed to excel in both.

Hillan said, “Asking for help, was one of the biggest things I had to do. It wasn’t easy balancing honors classes and varsity softball as a freshmen, but when I asked for help, it become much easier.”  When asked about her most difficult class, Hillan said that AP European history was her hardest class. “It was my first AP class and I had no idea how much work it was going to be. I remember getting an F on my first test, and from then on I knew it would be a challenge for me.”

Some advice Hillan would give to freshman is, “Turn in your work, that is one of the main reasons I struggled with my classes. Even if it’s not very good, turning it in will get you at least some points.”

Softball is one of Hillan’s main focuses, and she plans on playing in college. Hillan said, “Softball has impacted me in a huge way. It taught me how to manage my time and make sure I get everything I need to get done.” At the end of her junior year, the Redwood softball team won their Valley championship title. Hillan said, “This was one of my biggest accomplishments, it was extremely stressful. When we won, I was so happy. All of our hard work finally paid off.”

As Hillan goes through her last year of high school, she’s excited for what the future holds.
