All three levels of Tackle Football are undefeated. Everyone has been playing a big part in this program: Coaches, Players, and even Parents; everyone is doing their job.

Austin Azpren, ‘29, a sophomore on Junior Varsity, said what makes this year’s football program different from previous years for him: “It’s been a lot of fun this year, playing with different players and new coaches. It’s been cool.”

A Freshman on the Freshman team, Anthony Gamboa, ‘30, was asked what it means to have all 3 levels undefeated. He said, “It feels good because it’s like my first year playing high school Football; we’ve been doing good against all the teams we’ve been going against.”

Redwood has been dominating the competition on all 3 levels. Showcasing their ability to work as a team and shows the program’s potential.

Gamboa also announced how the team was doing in their preseason, and he said, “A lot of conditioning, a lot of putting in the work. Even when you’re home by yourself, you should be putting in the work, like a lot of my teammates; we come out to the park, and we practice by ourselves even after practice.” Gamboa is a starting outside linebacker.

This past week, Redwood’s football program had its bye week for all levels. They took the time to work on their mistakes, watch films, and most importantly, get fired up to go against Arroyo Grande for the freshmen team, and CVC for JV and Varsity.

A Senior on Varsity, starting slot receiver Drayton Hall, ‘27, was asked about his opinion on what their undefeated start says about the culture of the football program.

Hall said, “I just feel like if we all are bonding, we want the same thing, moving forward, then we’re gonna go far. We’re gonna go deep.”

Hall also shared what kind of work has gone on behind the scenes to get this program to this point. He said, “Working during the summer at COS, getting extra work, just lifting, running routes, even footwork, and just staying on top of the grind and just keep working.”

A Freshman on Junior Varsity, starting defensive tackle Ezra Bell, ’30, talked about what their undefeated start to the season says about their football culture.

Bell said, “You know, it says how hard we train. Coaches dedicate their time into us so we could go undefeated. We started during August, I believe. We got together as a team and practiced on the baseball field. Some of us went with varsity.”

The starting QuarterBack on Junior Varsity, Jackson Todd, ’29, shared what it means for all three levels to be undefeated, and he said, “All three levels being undefeated is a great honor. You know, I say we’re all playing as a team right now. Bringing the practice and the integrity that we bring to the game.”

Todd believes that their team wouldn’t be possible without their teamwork and team bonding: “Team chemistry has definitely been there. Every Saturday I host a team bonding at my house.”

Todd has a lot of passion and dedication to his teammates and coaches.

Slor receiver Luis Monroy, ’30, is on the Freshman team, and talked about how it felt during preseason, and he said, “Doing a lot of conditioning and being in the weight room, even if we had a bad practice, we would always bounce back and come back stronger.”

Overall, the team’s chemistry and amazing efforts and dedication to get all three levels to this point have had a huge impact on the Redwood football program.
