Jema Serrato, ‘27, shares her thoughts about the most memorable game the girls’ flag football team has played.
She said, “Probably our first game with Madera because we beat them 80-0 and we were two points away from the national record.”

Serrato’s position on the team is rusher.
When Serrato was asked how she wanted people to remember this first girls flag football team. She said, “I want them to remember us as winners, achievers, and hard workers.”
Being on the first Redwood Flag Football team ever in the school district is really challenging, and their record proves how good their team really is.
Harlyn Kausen, ‘27, shared the biggest reason for the team’s success this year: “I think our chemistry following the soccer season has been really helpful, and we’re being coached well.”
A lot of the girls on the flag team were either on the Junior Varsity or Varsity soccer team during the 2025-2026 school year.

Kausen was asked about the team’s biggest conflict that the team will face going forward.
Kausen addressed, “Playing teams who have had programs for years, and since we’re new to this, we have a disadvantage.”
This year has been a tremendous outlook for the first time in VUSD history, as flag football has been introduced.
Anailizah Balderas, ‘28, shared where she sees this program in the future.
Bladeras shared, “I can see the program for flag football going pretty far and a lot of talented people coming out and just getting better.”
