The “Colors for Coats” club is a new club at Redwood this year. Megan Shin, ‘22 is this year’s club president.

The “Colors for Coats” club is a public health club that caters to involving students in the healthcare field through incorporating art.

At the Cowhide lunch carnival, the “Colors for Coats” club ran a face painting stand that painted Cowhide spirit designs on students’ faces.

Shin shares, “Our goal is to make healthcare fun for students, not just to expose them to the healthcare community, but to help others.”

By hosting a booth at a large event where students can be exposed to the type of club “Colors for Coats” is, the members were hoping to allow the students to see what sort of fun activities the club offers.

Member Ella Satorre, ‘22 shares more about the club, “students sell their artwork in order to help fundraise for health-related initiatives.”

Satorre also shared that the club will be hosting local volunteer events that are related to both healthcare and art.

With each month, “Colors for Coats” have new research topics to spread awareness and education for certain healthcare disparities.

Satorre says, “By researching and making infographics and articles, members can earn community service hours.”

By intertwining art and creativity with the science/medical field and community service, “Colors for Coats” becomes a very unique club amongst many of the rest of the organizations at Redwood.

Satorre also shares about the member meetings, “We mostly discuss our future events and talk about our monthly research topics and volunteer opportunities.”
