Marlin Palacios, new library aide shares an insight on her job and feelings of being the new addition to Redwood staff.

Lina Contreras, Librarian

New staff being added to Redwood makes for an exciting new change and addition. The library staff has just added their newest aide, Marlin Palacios.

Palacios assists with the library and makes sure all of the resources for Redwood students are available. She says, “For example our books, Chromebooks, and printers. I help students find books even if it’s in the online library.”

Palacios previously has had experience working in a library with Visalia Unified School District (VUSD). She believes that this experience helped her get the job as a library aide.

She works from 12:30 to 4:30 every weekday in the library. She often volunteers in the mornings to help librarian, Lina Contreras

Contreras says, “She’s amazing. I’m so happy we have someone that’s an assistant and she has a little bit of background in the library.”

On top of her job she trains the library aides to get them prepared for rushes of students. The library can get super busy, especially with the new Chromebooks that VUSD gave out for the new school year.

Contreras says, “We work with library books, novels, and textbooks now with Chromebooks. It’s a lot of work constantly so I need an assistant to provide better services to the library…”

After Mr. Frank’s retirement, the library had a 6 month period with no assistance. Contreras says, “We need an extra person here with me at the library…I had no time to help students and provide my library services in general.”

Palacios leaving a lasting message to Redwood Rangers says, “There is more happiness in giving than receiving.”
