Makenna Haskill ’19, is one of the top 5 for homecoming queen and is super excited about it and for the experience that will come along with it. Her escort is Landin Winter ‘19, and he is also very excited for this week and what it will bring. Here is more about her in depth.

Q: What are you involved with here at Redwood?

A: I really like to get involved. I have been in many clubs since freshman year, right now I am a secretary for art club, I am in FBLA, I have helped one of my friends with the girls wrestling team, and I am on the varsity girls water polo team right now. I have been in clubs, sports, ASB, so I feel that I have been really involved in school so far.

Q: If you could describe yourself in 3 words what would they be?

A: Spunky, resilient, and determined

Q: What was the feeling you got when you found out you were one of the top 5 nominees?

A: I was really happy, proud, and thankful to the senior class for nominating me and thinking that I deserved it so that made me very happy.

Q: What do you feel sets you apart from the other candidates?

A: I wouldn’t say much because we are all close friends which is really hard too because it is a competition and we love each other so much. We are all so involved and we do sports and dance and everything so I feel that nothing really sets us apart from each other to much.

Q: What is your favorite part about homecoming?

A: Being in top 5 and being in the competition, so I am really excited for that because I am really competitive. But I also think that getting ready, getting dressed up and riding in the car is going to be really fun.

Q: Who is your escort and what is one quality you like about him?

A: His name is Landin Winter, and he is super funny and awesome to hang out with. We are best friends.

Q: Has this been a goal or dream that you have wanted?

A: I think that every girl has wondered “am I going to get nominated” at least once and it was really cool to be nominated alone. Being in the top 5 is phenomenal, I didn’t even see it coming. I do not expect anything huge, just participating with the girls is going to be super fun.

Q: What is your goal to achieve after high school?

A: I plan on doing ROTC at a college, I do not know what college yet, and to be in the navy. Get my school done and then hopefully become a lawyer one day.

Q: What would you like to tell younger students who aspire to be in you position?

A: Get involved as much as you can during freshman year. Join as many clubs as you can because getting involved is basically the best way to live high school because you meet so many new friends and go through so many new experiences and I have had the best high school experience because I have been so involved and met so many new friends.

Q: What do you plan to do if you win?

A: I do not really think it is going to really change much. Winning would be awesome, but I do not think there would be a difference. I think that I would just try to get everyone involved still,  just be the same me and inspire others to love high school the way I do.

Makenna Haskill is very involved in school and is ready to be the next homecoming queen. You can vote for her this Friday, and don’t forget to go to he homecoming game at 7:30 here at the Mineral King Bowl as our Rangers go up against Atascadero. During half time the homecoming queen will be crowned.
