Luciano Noguera ‘24 is playing the character of Mr. McAfee in the upcoming play called Bye Bye Birdie.
Noguera was asked to describe how he felt with only one word when he had found out that he had gotten the role he said he was “overjoyed, just for getting in [the play] and getting the role I wanted.”
Also when he was preparing for the audition, he was shooting for the role, Mr. McAfee, and he was very excited when he heard he got that character.
“Due to the circumstances that Conrad has put upon his life” it has made Mr. McAfee in a constant fit of rage.
Mr. McAfee’s character is overall an annoyed and frustrated father of Kim and Randolph and Conrad is a character who is the “elvis-style” rock type and who is currently headed to the army.
He describes the rehearsals as fun but since he got an important role, he has to be a role model and put in a lot of effort and time for the lines, dances and singing.
The rehearsals have helped Noguera and he said “overall the experience teaches you a lot.”
Noguera did many things to prepare for the audition and he shares “I’ve listen to recordings from Broadway and watched movies.” These things have helped him build his character on stage.
He hopes to add more dept to his character and allow the audience to insight more of where the character is coming from and how he speaks when show his side of being a dad.
There are many things that Noguera is looking forward to during the musical but one main thing he said is “I mostly look forward to the flow of the show and how it’ll come together for opening night.”
