This week alone a handful of Rangers have received parking tickets around the school. Including the student parking lot and 3 hour parking.

Many students complain about the parking at school. Redwood is surrounded with permit parking, 3 hour parking, 2 hour parking, business parking lots, and a small student parking lot.

Redwood is one of the largest high schools in Visalia, yet we are the school with the smallest parking lot among the high schools. Golden West and El D have some of the largest parking lots while Mt. Whitney has a larger parking lot than Redwood does.

2nd semester is the worse for student drivers to be parking at school. 2nd semester brings more new drivers to campus as more sophomores get their licenses.

Many students who do get a spot that not illegal get to school an hour or so earlier and have to then sit in their car waiting for school to start.

Megan Noronha, ’19, says “It’s not okay that we have such limited parking at Redwood already and now the admin are calling the police to give students tickets in the student parking lot”.

Students should be given a ticket if parked illegally but police should give us till lunchtime to move our cars because once we are on campus we can’t go and move our cars to avoid getting a ticket. Many seniors only have classes till lunchtime so many spots open up after lunch.

Megan explains,”I think we should either be given more places to park or we should be given an option to like buy parking spots”.

The hospital down the street takes up many parking lots around downtown. They recently tore down Doc’s to build a new parking lot. The hospital should share the large parking lot across the street from our student lot till lunchtime with us.
