Rangers Baseball hosted their first game of the season on Tuesday, February 19th against the Buchanan Bears where they pulled out a 2-0 win to what was the first ranked DI team from the Central Section. It all started with Gallardo walking the first batter on a 3-1 count. It looked like it was going to be another struggle for Cam, as he’s already been overwhelmed by the walks he’s given out this season. However, he and the Rangers had other plans.

They ended the first inning on a flyout to center, stranding a runner at third. The bottom of the first was surprisingly uneventful, as Redwood went down with Bronson Chamberlin grounding out to second. The second inning was much better. In the bottom of the second, Ty Ashford drew a bases loaded walk, that would ultimately be the game winner. Redwood would score one more time off of a fly ball to center from Garcia. He would ultimately get out but that was it. Redwood 2, Buchanan 0. Then, on the second to last out, the game was decided by a flyout to left with runners on first and second… but a branch fell! The rule was that if the ball hit the tree for some strange reason, it would be ruled a home run, which might’ve won the game for Buchanan, 3-2. Thankfully, it was ruled a flyout, and the final out was on a fly ball to center. Final Score: Rangers, 2. Bears, 0.

Since the Buchanan win, Redwood won another game against Fresno on February 21st, 3-1. Afterwards they took a loss over the weekend to Central, 3-1. And the most recent game, was a hard fought but tough loss for the boys to Clovis East, 6-3. These games help prepare them for potential post-season since they have been cycling through all the DI Clovis schools.

Go out to support the boys and their season in their next game today away against Sunnyside!
