Girls basketball recently held tryouts for the 23-24 season. Many girls went out and competed, and players that made the varsity team share their thoughts and feelings about the tryouts and the upcoming season.

Emma Vargas, ‘24, is a 3-year varsity senior. When asked about the tryout process she said, “The tryouts went really well, I made sure to give it my all.”
Vargas is very excited about the upcoming season, she says, “I really want to finish my last season really strong and I am super excited to see what this season holds for us.”
When asked about the game she anticipates the most, Vargas says,” Probably El D. We know all the girls, and it’s usually always a good back-and-forth game.”

Zoe Alvarado, ‘25, is a first-year varsity player. When asked about tryouts she says, “The tryouts were very competitive because there were a lot of girls. It was nerve-wracking because there were a lot of good girls, but, once it was over and I had made the team I was super proud of my accomplishment.”
The tryout process was very educating to Alvarado. When asked about it she says, “I really need to put my hundred percent and all into it because if I don’t someone will take my spot.”

Alvarado is very excited to compete at the higher level on varsity this season. She says, “Something I’m excited to do is to compete on varsity with these girls and create bonds through the season.”
Jordan Powell, ‘27, made the varsity team. When asked about tryouts she says, “Tryouts went really well. There were a lot of girls that played basketball that I didn’t know so it was really exciting. My favorite part of the tryout experiences was being pushed and learning new things.”
Powell has a lot of excitement for the upcoming season. She says, “I am excited for state and championships.”
Redwood will have their first tournament on November 16th when they host the Visalia Tip Off Classic. Their first league game is on January 9th at El Diamante.
