AVID-3 is having its annual food drive. It will run from November 6th to November 16th. Cans should be brought to your first-period class and the winning class will receive a donut party. The food goes to Visalia Rescue Mission. They help provide struggling people and families with food for the holidays.

Mr. Cain the AVID-3 advisor, this food drive is very important to him he says, “There are many members of our Visalia community that are resource poor and could benefit from the goodwill and kind giving from our Redwood Community.”

Mr.Cain also believes that the food drive is a great way for the students of Redwood to make an impactful difference, he says, “We can help be agents of our community and that our actions have the power to help others in their time of need.”

Mr. Cain’s love for the food drive goes beyond helping those in need he says, “I really enjoy working with the AVID students and watching them take up leadership roles in the organization, promotion, and facilitation of the Canned Food Drive.”

So far AVID-3 has donated 2,654 pounds of food. When asked if Mr. Cain has a goal for this year he says,” If we could get around 1,500 pounds this year and next year these AVID students would be able to donate 5 tons of food to the Visalia Rescue Mission.”

Mr. Cain is not the only one who loves the food drive. Sara Marmolejo, ’25 has been in AVID for 3 years and is always excited when the food drive comes around, “I love when it’s time to do the Canned food drive, it’s my favorite time of year.”

When asked about why she likes the food drive Marmolejo says, “I really enjoy making a difference in people’s lives and it makes me feel good knowing that this food drive can help so many different people who are in a tough place.”

Vanessa Garica, ’25 is another AVID student who is passionate about the food drive when asked about her favorite part she says, “I love making posters and prepping stuff for it and at the end when we collect everything because it all feels really rewarding,”
