I entered room 207 as a young freshman. For those of you who are not aware, room 207 is Mr. Miller’s room. He teaches AP Literature and Journalism.

I remember being nervous because this was my first period class in my high school schedule. I walked into the room, and was greeted by a lively teacher and bubbly classmates.

The seniors in the class looked so confident and happy, and I wanted to be like them. Since then, I have remained in journalism. I wrote for different sections of the Redwood Gigantea and found my place within the sports section.

Then Covid came around, upsetting everything. I stayed in journalism, but struggled to find stories. I wrote for the news section and wrote stories about COVID-19 impacting Redwood.

When we were finally allowed back on campus, journalism was completely different. I was now a senior, and one of the very few four year members in the room.

This year I became the sports editor, and have edited a lot of stories. I found that I am just as confident as those seniors that I used to look up to. I have grown a lot throughout my years in journalism, and found that writing is one of my many passions that I enjoy doing.

My advice, as a senior leaving Redwood, is to look into joining journalism because it may be one of the best experiences of your life.
