Due to COVID-19, many students were not able to do things they may have initially wanted to do for their 2020 summer vacation. This summer however, restrictions were lighter and many students were able spend their summer vacation having fun. Whether that was taking on a summer job, traveling to a different city, or even sitting at home and making their time useful there.

Jadyn Garcia, ’22 with her friends

Jadyn Garcia, ’22 spent her summer vacation working as a lifeguard and swim instructor. She explains how it was a great first job for her and how she had so much fun teaching kids. Garcia also went on trips to the beach with her friends, “It was such a fun get-away before school [started],” Garcia states.

Garcia goes on to talk about last summer during COVID, and how she wasn’t able to get out of the house. She says, “I wanted to be safe, so all I did was stay at home and enjoy the company of my family.”

Garcia was really happy that she got more opportunities to have fun this summer and hopes next summer stays the same.

Isabel Ledesma, ’22 in Cancun

Isabel Ledesma, ’22 spent her summer vacation hanging out with her friends and family. She also went on a trip to Cancun, Mexico with her friend, Cambri Rodriguez, ’22 as well.

Ledesma highlights last summer, and how she mostly stayed at home because of the rise of COVID cases. Ledesma points out, “This summer there was less restrictions, and I was able to go more places.” She expresses how this summer was a lot more enjoyable than last summer.

Natalie McDonnell, ’23 with her family

Natalie McDonnell, ’23 spent her summer focusing on summer school, going to the coast, and soccer tournaments. She also went to Disney World with her family for a week.

McDonnell goes on to explain the differences between this summer and last summer.

She says, “Last summer, we weren’t able to travel much.”

She expresses how last summer was scary because of the situation. She adds that this summer was “more enjoyable” due to the less restrictions, and the ability to have “more freedom to go places.”
