On Tuesday, Redwood Women’s Varsity tennis team played against Central Valley Christian High School. Later that week they also played Liberty High School at the TRAC tournament.

When asked what can be improved on, Antonella Caredenas ‘24 says, “For the season I’m hoping to improve our team’s connection because a lot of people were seniors and we haven’t had time to connect with each other.”

With the team not being completely bonded yet, they still showed great results against Central Valley Christian.

Jocelyn Arellano ‘23 says, “The team played really well yesterday. Everyone played really good and for our first match I think everyone has improved since the beginning of summer.”

The girls have similar goals for the season, both individually and as a team. Noelle Keck ‘25 says, “Something I hope to improve for the season is just keeping a positive mindset. It’s really a mental game and sometimes when I’m out there I can really get in my head. I try not to beat myself up too much after a game.”

Jenna Mitchell ‘23 says, “Tennis is a very mentally challenging game because in a way it is just an individual sport, meaning you’re the only one to blame.”

With tennis being a tough game mentally, the girls are doing their best to be the strongest group as a whole, meaning having good relationships with each other.

After coming off an overall win against Central Valley Christain, Redwood’s tennis team fell short against Liberty High School at the TRAC tournament. Emma Jenan ‘25 says, “ I felt like we were all just off that day, but we are playing them again on Thursday, so we’ll definitely be preparing so we can beat them this time!”

Arellano wants to keep the spirit up on the team! She says, “When we line up for introductions, other teams always have this really weird clap and we are just clapping. So I think having a better cheer would be great!”
