To start off the season, your varsity lady Rangers take on Tulare Union in a home match at 6:00pm in the Bowl. Redwood High School varsity is coached by Mr. Jason Vieira, who has been coaching the team for the past couple of years.
This team has been on a streak of dominance since head coach Vieira took over for the 2011-2012 season. Since then, girls soccer boasts a strong 183-53-23 record. This totals out to an outstanding 70.66% winning percentage.
Last year, the Rangers finished with a season record of 13-3-2. They were lead by Paityn Bruce, ‘24. Bruce led the team with the most goals last year (20). It is going to be fun to watch Bruce this year, as she has a high chance to really excel.
Someone to watch for is midfielder Bianka Sanchez, ‘22. Sanchez is a senior captain this year.
She has a very big role to fulfill. Sanchez said, “My main goal is to keep the girls motivated to do their best and to help keep their heads up when they make a mistake.”
Elise Hyde, ‘22 is a defender who is committed to Westmont College to play soccer. Hyde is fun to watch, and is someone to keep your eye on during the season.
It is going to be interesting to watch this team perform this season. Midfielder Ellie Gilbert, ‘24 said, “We’ve been training hard, and I think we have a strong team.”
The girls seem very confident going into the season. Even though they did not win league last year, this group of girls seems like they have something special. They are ready to take on anyone who comes their way.
