On Wednesday, October 18th, Redwood Women’s Tennis had their EYL tournament to finish off League. Many of our Redwood girls placed very high in this tournament.

Noelle Keck, ’25, says, “I thought the tournament went really good, our overall winners for doubles and singles were from Redwood, so we placed really high.”

Keck placed fourth in the singles bracket of the tournament. She says, “At first I was really nervous because last year, I didn’t do as good, but I feel like I really improved.”

She says, “But once I got to the tournament I did really well and I knocked out a seed and I wasn’t seeded, so I’m very proud.”

Antonella Cardenas, ’24, took first place in doubles with her partner Lainey Rowe. Cardenas says, “The win feels amazing especially since we both worked really hard through the season to make it to where we are today.”

She says, “It also feels a little extra nice to win because we fell short by three points last tournament so this was our comeback win.”

Cardena’s highlight of the tournament was, “My volleys. While playing at the net I felt amazing and I was doing the put away shots that I needed to do.”

Julia Russell, ’26, was another highly placed player on girl’s tennis. She says, “I think we were really prepared for this tournament and we’ve been training for this so I felt good.”

Russell placed third in doubles. She says, “My partner and I knew how to get back if we lost or made a mistake, so that helped us do better overall.”

Russell says that the hardest team they played was El Diamante. She says, “We actually lost to them, but then we came back our next game and picked it up.”

Aubrey Buchanan, the women’s tennis coach, felt very proud of her girls. She says, “The girls did amazing on Wednesday! They have improved so much in their game and their patience.”

Tennis tournaments can be very tiring because there’s a lot of playing and little time to rest.

Buchanan says, “Every match they walked off from, they instantly prepared for the next with no complaining. To say I am proud of the improvement and character of our players is an understatement.”

Buchanan says, “Yesterday was amazing and every single one of them played just the way I hoped they would. I cannot brag about these girls enough.”
