Redwood’s Digital Film students are competing in their first film festival this school year at the Galaxy Theater in Porterville CA. This festival will be put on by the Porterville School District.

Six Redwood teams will be competing for the three film category top spots at the Porterville FIlm Festival. This takes place on Friday December 9, 2022 where they will be competing against some of the Central Valley’s top programs.

Redwood’s Film Students submitted six videos. The categories include advertisement, Public Service Announcements (PSA) and Drama. The categories of the videos also follow those of the Slick Rock film festival, except for the Drama.

For the Drama, students were given two requirements, one: The characters must be keeping a secret from one another, and second: Only one light source can be used. Ian Cook ‘23 came up with a period piece scene from World War II that would be located in Frankfurt, Germany.

This film is led by Tyler Patterson ‘23 who plays a Frankfort police detective investigating a suspicious death. The scene is shot in the LJ William Theater’s green room over candlelight. This riveting scene resembles an old film from the 1940’s that rivals Casa Blanca.

Other festival submissions include a domestic violence PSA as well as a Taylor’s Hot Dogs Ad.

This film festival will be a warmup for Ranger Video, as they approach the big Central Valley film competition “Slick Rock” put on by the Tulare County Office of Education in May.

Ian Cook ‘23, director of the drama film, shared his experience in filming. He said “I have high hopes for winning this one and I think we have a good chance.”

Tyler Patterson ‘23, actor of the drama film, said “I really enjoyed getting to go through the whole process of writing and filming.” Patterson also said, “I think it turned out pretty good.”

This Friday from 5-7pm at the Porterville Galaxy theater the Ranger Video students will find out if they fared well at this first competition of the school year.

Good luck to our Rangers!
