Due to the Coronavirus, school has been canceled for some time, and now we are all learning online which completely alters the Freshmen experience for the class of ‘24.

Coming into high school Brooke Hacker, ‘24, was excited to experience high school, but due to the circumstances is now very disappointed. Hacker saw this as a key point in her life, and a new beginning. Hacker was most looking forward to spending time with her friends and being on the volleyball team. Davis Rawson, ‘24 was also disappointed. He was looking forward to being on campus and doing things he couldn’t do in middle school, including having more freedom and more elective choices. Rawson is also frustrated because of the learning aspect over the computer, such as zoom calls glitching and kicking out students.

Syrina Ceballos, ‘24 is glad that distance learning is not a full day of school, so she feels less stressed and has time to get her work done more efficiently. Ceballos is also looking forward to seeing her friends and making new ones once we go back to school in person.

Henry Hornburg, ‘24 feels that he is missing out on many opportunities at school, like football games, rallies, other sports, and just social aspects to school as well. He feels that distance learning has not affected his learning experience, but just the basic ins and outs of high school.

Another incoming freshman Avery Aicklen, ‘24, feels a little bit relieved that we are missing our freshman year because we get to miss being “at the bottom” or in other words, “fresh meat.” However, Aicklen also feels sad because of the social aspect, but she is looking forward to getting back to school to experience regular highschool. She mentioned looking forward to rallies, football games, meeting friends, and being on campus. Hopefully, this pandemic will end soon and we can all go back to our normal lives.
