As the middle of the first semester approaches, lots of kids who worked summer jobs have run out their money. This leaves not very many options when picking out a lunch spot. From Redwood High School on 1001 W Main Street, there are lots of different spots to go, but when you have a craving for fries, where is the best place?
For students who drive, McDonald’s on Mineral King and Demaree could be a five minute drive, depending on traffic, and with an allotted 46 minutes for lunch, it is do-able. Likewise, In-n-Out is six minutes away. So when considering the drive, both places are the same, so that narrows factors when choosing which place to satisfy your lunchtime cravings.
Getting technical, many students rely on a limited budget for lunch everyday. Personally, I can spend anywhere from $2-$15, depending on the place. Comparing McDonalds and In-n-Out, the prices can range. There are different sizes for McDonald’s french fries.
McDonald’s french fries come in small, medium and large, and normally that is not the only thing you get when you order. The price for a small fry is $1.39, the price for a medium is $0.40 more and the large is $1.89. For $1.39 you can consume 230 calories worth of potatos. At In-n-Out, one serving of french fries is $1.60. The In-n-Out resturant has an extremely simple menu, only serving one size.
As for the taste, some people prefer McDonald’s to In-n-Out. In-n-Out has been known by some for serving stale fries, depending on the day and time they go. Others who go to In-n-Out express love for the fries and won’t eat fries from anywhere else. They are not as oily.
In-n-Out achieves their signature fresh french fries by patting them down after frying them. They are cooked to order, and customers can ask for them lightly cooked, less of a crunch and for people who want more of a crunch, can ask for well done.
When comparing the pros and cons of which french fry joints to eat at, it depends purely on taste and the quantity you desire. The drive time is nearly the same, so when choosing, take into consideration the amount of fries you want and if you want your hunger to be curved by fries cooked precisely to order or fries salted to perfection.
Until next month! Belle out.
