Redwood’s Feminist Perspective hosted guest speakers, Gina Rodriguez and Victor Camacho from ACT for Women and Girls to talk about the standing issue with self-care.

ACT for Women and Girls is a nonprofit organization located in Tulare County in the Central Valley of California. They are a “reproductive justice organization building power through leadership development, community organizing, advocacy, and policy change in our communities,” as stated on their website.

Gina Rodriguez is the program director of ACT for Women and Girls and she bought self-care boxes for the club and an inspiring quote.

The Feminist Perspective club has been hosting ACT guest speakers for two years. ACT for Women and Girls helps young feminists at Redwood gain more insight on how to get involved and help out in their community.

The process of making the self-care boxes

Citlaly Marquez ‘21, President of the Feminist Perspective club enjoys the guest speakers. “I liked that she brought in a topic that was not too heavy, meaning that feminism isn’t just about issues with women. There are broader topics that we touch on and I think that’s important.” Marquez says.

Alina Hernandez ‘23 is the secretary of the Feminist Perspective club on the topic of self-care she says, “Self-care is something everyone struggles with which is what makes it a great topic to talk about for this meeting.”

Rodriguez and Camacho helped the members of the Feminist perspective create “self-care boxes”. In these green cardboard boxes, participants added candy, tea, special messages and empowering quotes to create a safe box to help you out when you are having a bad day.
