Redwood Green Club, which focuses on recycling and conservation, helps to keep our community and environment clean.

Members of the club do volunteer work such as planting trees and working with local organizations.

Students involved with Green Club pick up Redwood, mainly after lunch, and recycle all of the trash, cans, and water bottles found around Redwood’s campus.

Mr. Eskridge, who has been the Green Club advisor for the past 4 years and prior co-advisor, provides a space for students to hold their meetings and helps restart the club at the beginning of every year.

Before the school shut down caused by COVID-19 Eskridge says, that the club “started in the fall [of 2020 by] doing some classroom recycling”. Teachers who wanted to participate were given recycling bins to put in their classrooms.

The recyclable materials collected were then taken to recycling centers and the money received was used to fund the club.

Since school has started back in person, the current vice president Abby Murrell 23′ has taken part in rebuilding the club. She says that the Green Club’s recycling program has provided a lot of the water bottle refill stations and it is mainly funded by the recycling that they do.

“If you see any of the recycling, make sure you donate to them because we use the money to give back to Redwood,” she says.

Danica Ramos, 24′, is the media manager for Green Club. She says, “We are looking forward to doing more volunteer and recycling opportunities and trying to do more for the environment.”

Ramos says, “they want to make sure that Redwood can be a more green place.”

Nevaeh Jasso 23′, is the secretary of the green club.

Jasso says, “I’m just finding new ways to help the environment and just being able to reduce things like plastic and just help out.”

Not only does the Green Club benefit our campus to keep it clean, but it also impacts students’ lives as well.

Club member Audrey Longan 22′, says, “Personally I hope to be an environmental scientist when I grow up and Green Club is just one of those things that can help me get there. I’m also really passionate about the environment and I love protecting it and making sure that’s nice for many generations.”
