Redwood’s Engineering class takes a field trip and the Engineering students get to learn incredible new things!
By: Ruby Sandoval- Perez
Mr. Blair, the engineering teacher says, “The purpose of our field trip is to give our kids exposure to the things that we’re learning within our classes and our curriculum and how they can be applied in the real world, so we connect with industry partners and professionals that help provide perspective how what we’re learning here connects to what they do every day you know for their enterprises industry and company.”
Students got to learn and understand the real-world uses of what they are studying in the classroom. Building connections with professionals can make important decisions.
“Yeah, I kind of nerd out, I was excited about the robotics portion and the GUS those ones were the ones I look forward to.” Says Mr. Blair.
Mariah Gomez ‘24 says, “We’ve just got to see the real-life process of how the machines are made versus the Little Things we make in class.”
It is nice that the steps used to create machines in real life change strongly from the ones used to make the small items students make in class. It helps them understand how complicated and the opportunity of what is produced is better. Seeing how things are made behind the scenes is always interesting.
Gomez says, “How it enhances my understanding is just seeing how many people come together to design certain things and all the steps to get to it.”
Seeing the teamwork and multiple steps needed to make an idea happen is great. There is a whole new understanding of the work of collaboration that goes into this.
Riley Emos ’24 says ‘In class right now we’re designing our own products for like to improve like whatever basically we picked our own projects we’re just trying to make improvements to everyday objects and things like that and I guess the machine in particular it’s important to know that because it’s important for prototyping”
Making custom items that improve everyday things is a great way to make your creativity infinite. Rangers get to learn how to make and improve these items, and it shows off their creative side.
Zachary Rastellini ’24 says, “While we’re there everyone is asking a lot of questions the professionals and they’re asking like how they could get involved and like what they should do to be able to follow this like line of work in the future”
It’s great to see professionals take an interest in student’s work. They seem to be interested in learning how they can get involved because they see value in what the students do.
Talon Reader ‘24 says, “They showed us how they build different materials like metal and wood as they show us how to cut it up and stuff”
Finding out more about how to build used for different supplies, such as wood and metal, is really interesting for Redwood Rangers. They can have a better understanding of how things are made by watching how they are cut and shaped. Seeing how things get created behind the scenes is always fascinating!
