Ever since phones were created back in 1973 some have wondered if cell phones make people boring. There are many pros and cons to having a cell phone but in my perspective, I feel that they do make people boring, and here’s why.

I look around and see everyone on their cell phone. That is all I ever see these days. I feel that everyone is being consumed by their cell phones. Yes, the phone gives you communication services to people far away. Yes, they allow you to get a hold of someone quickly. They can even provide entertainment to help pass the time when you are bored. But when I look at the big picture, I do not see people communicating face-to-face like they used to. Many people take out their phone the second they are bored. Society has come to rely on a phone to provide them with entertainment no later than a minute without not knowing what to do. When people do this, I see it as them stunting their creativity or imagination because you are not thinking for yourself, you are letting the device do it for you. So is it true that cellphones make people boring? I certainly think so.

Many people that own cellphones, but no social media usually are not in the “in” and aren’t up to date with things happening in people’s lives or around the world. Yes, it is true that being consumed with social media can lead to being obsessive over other people’s lives, but that’s not always the case. Social media is one way to keep in contact with friends and family all over the world. Cellphones in general are not boring- there are many things you can do with one that can be fun. It’s fun to have control over something you own and see what’s new with your friends. It is true that most people are obsessed with their phones, but that doesn’t make them boring. They may be missing out on something, but not boring. All in all, social media is a fun and creative way to keep in contact with people and express your personality- what’s boring about that?

Phones are definitely a need in this society and yes, they have many good aspects that my opponent has brought up. But, I still strongly feel that cellphones do indeed make people boring. Social media does keep you close to others, but then everyone gets so caught up as to when someone will post. They are constantly on their phone. From looking around many of us are not looking around at what is going on and are focused on a fake life on a screen. Which, in my opinion makes society boring due to not truly living in the moment. But in the end it is all your personal opinion.
