With school back in full swing, students are now able to go off campus for lunch. This year, the sophomores, juniors, and seniors are taking advantage of this opportunity to the fullest.

Rangers everywhere are getting together, and enjoying those sacred thirty six minutes of time they get between their busy schedules. Although, they all know lunch is so much more than that. After nearly a year of being away behind black zoom screens and faceless names, lunch is the opportunity for students to get together and reconnect.

While seniors, juniors, and sophomores are hitting the road driving, or walking to get to their favorite restaurants nearby, freshmen are enjoying their lunches on campus.

Although freshmen may not always have a favorite spot on campus, or get to go to restaurants they may enjoy the most, there is one common factor- they enjoy getting together with friends. Bekah Cantelmi ‘25 says, “I usually just sit at any table I can find, and hang out with my friends.”

Some upperclassmen choose to stay on campus with friends, some quietly eat outside their next class, but many are getting to local restaurants with friends such as Jimmy John’s, Subway, Doc’s, and Javi’s.

It can get a bit crowded- people waiting up to twenty minutes to get food, but in the end, it’s about the experience of getting to leave campus, and getting the food they may truly desire.

Devon McWilliams ‘24 comments on the matter, “It’s really nice. … you can go out with your friends, go to local restaurants, and not have to stick to the lunch food here at school.”

While some sophomores may be walking as fast as possible trying to get to their favorite places and back, the juniors and seniors are taking advantage of their ability to drive.

Jocelyn Palomino ‘22 explains how it’s easier and faster now that she can drive. The sort of speed given from the ability to hit the road isn’t to be underestimated. Matthew Cortinas ‘22 says, “it’s way faster than walking.”

The drivers of Redwood have increased capability to go further out. They can take advantage of this to get to restaurants farther away.

Cortinas, ‘22 states his favorite restaurant to get to is In-N-Out. However, some Rangers are using their vehicles to get to closer spaces faster, such as Jimmy John’s or Doc’s. This gives them more time to eat, get to classes, and most importantly, conversate with friends.
