Damian Viveros is a member of the Redwood Mens Wrestling team. He was seated eighth at last week’s tournament and placed 2nd overall.

Damian Viveros, ’25, says, “We used to do wrestler of the week a while back and Coach Watts just wanted to start doing it again, and this week was my week.”

He continues, “This is my third year wrestling. I feel like I just worked hard and I translated it over to the tournament. I was seated number eight and I made it all the way to finals. I am really grateful and thankful for it.”

Trent Freeborn, ’25, says, “Damian’s a good guy. He works hard and especially from when he was younger. I feel like he has become a much better person and a wrestler and I think it’s cool having known him for a while and seeing his development.”

He says, “I think even this year he has great prospects of making it to state and that would be great for him. And I think his senior year if he works his hardest that he has been working this year I do think he has a real good chance of ending up on that podium.”

Coach Wright says, “Damian being wrestler of the week was a unanimous decision for our staff. I think anyone that knows Damian, you just root for him. It’s hard not to, he is such a good kid. We’re all really proud of him, we just have to keep that going now.”

He says, “Wrestler of the week started with our head coach Dave Watts. He really wanted to encourage the guys and recognize the team. Write feels that this award recognizes, “Attitude, effort, and being coachable.”
