On Wednesday, November 7th, the Redwood Boys Wrestling team traveled to Dinuba high school for their first scrimmage of the season.

In wrestling, it is all about having a good stamina, and who can push through the emotions of fatigue when in a match.

However, this is not a regular meet, there are no weigh-ins, but whoever you are closest in weight you would wrestle. It’s a “perfect opportunity” some might say, to be able to get that practice in.

Kobe Negrete ‘27, expresses how the first scrimmage started his process in the wrestling room for future meets. He says, “I just need to work hard each day and get better and better. I need to do stuff that people don’t do on the mat.”

Alec Harold ‘24, says, “I just need to make sure I get to practice everyday, I am constantly eating right, and having a good attitude.”

Harold also describes how he is feeling for the upcoming season being a senior. He says, “I’m sad that I won’t be able to do it again, but I’m grateful that I got to be here in the first place.”

During and after personal matches, many will reflect on how they did and watch back videos to see what they can change for the future.

Angel Bombela ‘27, says, “I think I did pretty good, this will help me out in the future for meets and other things because I will be prepared. It lets me see into the rest of the season and how I’m going to be against other people.”

On the team there are many seniors that this is potentially their last season wrestling. While some have been doing it for years, some may be doing it for the first time.

Isaak Mendoza ‘24, is one of these Boys that are officially in the last season of wrestling in their high school career.

He says, “For the scrimmage I went 2-0, but It’s kind of sad, being with everybody and going to our last tournaments and other meets. I want to make all of it fun, and because of this I want to give it all I got.”
