With the Cowhide game finally back after taking leave for one year, there is lots of excitement around Redwood getting prepared for the week. During this sacred week, there are lunch time activities and traditions that are kept alive.

Dress-up days are always something that the students look forward to, the students are able to show their Ranger pride and go all-out on the dress-up days no matter what they are.

Redwood’s 2021 Cowhide dress-up days are Monday: “Anything but a Backpack;” Tuesday: “Student/Teacher Flip;” Wednesday: “Trick-R-Treat;” Thursday: “Protect the Hide;” and lastly Friday: “Ranger Herd.”

For the last spirit day for Redwood’s 2021 Cowhide Week it was “Ranger Herd,” meaning all students wear all of their Redwood gear or cow print clothes in preparation for the big game later on.

Senior Hayden Esterman went above and beyond for her outfit. As well as wearing a cow blow-up costume, she bought a 3XL Ranger shirt from a couple years prior to putting on her costume.

Esterman says, “It’s my last Cowhide and it was my mission to go all-out, I had no choice but to.”

As for a lot of seniors who have the same mindset to go all-out especially it being the first Cowhide after a school year in quarantine, it was well noticed how grateful seniors were to be able to have Cowhide as well as have the home side on the stadium.

Esterman adds, “I loved getting to take pictures with everyone and to be able to show my Ranger pride and show what Redwood is made of, we bleed blue.”

It is bittersweet for the seniors knowing it’s their last Cowhide and last football game of the year, football is a main sport Redwood is known for and the Friday night lights is what students looks forward to.

Instead of a lunch time activity at lunch, there was a carnival in the quad that the clubs around campus were a part of and were able to set up fun games for students to play.

Laiba Hassan, ‘23 is a part of Link Crew and says, “Link Crew brought corn hole to the carnival, and it was so much fun being able to watch the students compete against each other and be able to play all the fun games that the other clubs had to offer.”

Sophomore Kennedy Cutler didn’t get to experience Cowhide her freshman year due to COVID-19. She says, “I enjoyed this week and what it had to offer. With it being my first Cowhide, it was so much fun and was great to see how it was like.”

With the sophomores not being able to experience how Cowhide really is, this year definitely made up for everything that was missed.

The big game: Mt. Whitney versus Redwood was Friday, the 29 at 7:30 pm in the Bowl. Although the result was not what the Rangers were hoping for, most can stay they still enjoyed the week and look forward to future Cowhides.
