With the Cowhide game finally back after taking leave for one year, there is lots of excitement around Redwood getting prepared for the week. During this sacred week, there are lunch time activities and traditions that are kept alive.
Dress-up days are always something that the students look forward to, the students are able to show their Ranger pride and go all-out on the dress-up days no matter what they are.
Redwood’s 2021 Cowhide dress-up days are Monday: “Anything but a Backpack;” Tuesday: “Student/Teacher Flip;” Wednesday: “Trick-R-Treat;” Thursday: “Protect the Hide;” and lastly Friday: “Ranger Herd.”
For the fourth day for Cowhide’s spirit days, “Protect the Hide” allowed Redwood Rangers to dress-up as security guards, cops, or in all black to “protect” the hide that the school has kept over the past three years.
Mrs. Victoria Wall, a P.E and Sports Medicine teacher, and the Link Crew advisor at Redwood, dressed up as a security guard with her sunglasses, blacked-out outfit, and walkie-talkie.
Wall says, “Wearing all black was easy for me, it’s my whole wardrobe.”
As for the lunch time activity, it was a lip syncing competition.
ASB President, Brielle Alvarez, ’22 says, “It was great. All the football players showed up and were able to show off their lip syncing skills.”
Having all of these lunch time activities allows the students who have never gotten to experience them before see what the preparation for the Cowhide game is all about- they get to watch the football players have fun and be involved before the big game.
Katelyn Weddle, ‘23 dressed up as a S.W.A.T team member.
She says, “I thought it was fun to do something other than dress-up in all black, I went more of a security route.”
As easy as Thursday’s dress-up day was, students were still able to add their own personal touch to whatever they were wearing.
The last dress-up day for Cowhide Week will be “Ranger Herd,” meaning students can wear all of their Redwood and Cowhide gear for the game Friday night. There will be a carnival at lunch involving a variety of games students can play.
