With the Cowhide game finally back after taking leave for one year, there is lots of excitement around Redwood getting prepared for the week. During this sacred week, there are lunch time activities and traditions that are kept alive.

Dress-up days are always something that the students look forward to, the students are able to show their Ranger pride and go all-out on the dress-up days no matter what they are.

Redwood’s 2021 Cowhide dress-up days are Monday: “Anything but a Backpack;” Tuesday: “Student/Teacher Flip;” Wednesday: “Trick-R-Treat;” Thursday: “Protect the Hide;” and lastly Friday: “Ranger Herd.”

Starting off day three of the Cowhide dress-up days was “Trick R Treat” or “Halloween Day.”

Many students all around Redwood went all-out for their costumes and were very creative. Having Halloween just a couple days after the game allows students to be able to show off what they will be wearing on this special dress-up day.

Asher Rowe, ‘22 wore a Hawaiian-themed pool stand. He walked around campus with a mini-not-so-mini stand and says, “Walking around campus with it was alright, but the only inconvenience was when the stairs were involved, but I just asked people who had elevator keys to take me with them.”

Having such a large campus does have its downfalls when it comes to things like this, having to worry about the stairs and the bridge does cause people to not be able to wear or bring certain things.

Having fruit on hand, Rowe was able to make smoothies on the spot but only made a couple because he would “never get to his classes on time.”

Getting the idea from just walking past a miniature smoothie machine in Best Buy, Rowe blew up the idea and made a grand stand as a costume.

By far, this was a very creative idea and something you won’t see regularly on Halloween.

For Wednesday’s lunch activity it was an “Easter Egg Hunt.” ASB President Brielle Alvarez, ‘22 says, “ Although not all of the football players showed up, it was a lot of fun watching the boys scramble around trying to find the golden egg.”

Ethan Griffiths, ‘22 and Kolby Howard, ‘22 was the duo that found the egg and earned them the win.

Griffiths says, “It was a bit tough having to push Kolby around in his wheelchair especially in the grass as well as try to find the egg at the same time, but we pulled through and were able to win.”

Joshua Rosales, ‘22 dressed up as the Marvel character, “Loki” and says, “I was in love with his outfit ever since I saw it, most people wouldn’t dress up as him and you wouldn’t know who I am unless you’ve seen the movie, it’s cool and subtle.”

Thursday’s dress-up day will be “Protect the Hide” dressing up as security, cops, or in all back. The lunch time activity is “Lip Sync Battle.”
