Redwood Choir starts off the school year strong. Chamber choir students performed the National Anthem and the Alma Mater at the Icebreaker Rally the second day of school. Students give their insights about this school year and some things they are looking forward to.

Chloe Payne ‘24 does both chamber and ranger choir. She gives the details of the Redwood choir and the start of the school year.

Payne says, “So far I am really enjoying it because we are not starting off wearing masks like last year, and that was not my favorite.”

“We are already starting some pretty challenging music, but I am excited for it.”

This school year Payne says she is looking forward to “concerts, the chamber retreat, and going to New York.”

Payne was a part of the Icebreaker Rally choir. To prepare for the rally she says, “We were given the sheet music for the harmonies for the National Anthem, and we were given like a night to figure it out.”

Payne says, “I was pretty nervous because that was my first time doing that.”

Within a short amount of time, the chamber choir was able to pull off a successful performance for the icebreaker rally to start off the new school year.

Natalie Nelson 24’ is also a part of chamber choir. This year she hopes to, “get closer to other people in choir, and get better both individually and as a whole choir.”

Nelson says, “In choir we are focusing on learning songs in different languages for our concert in October, as well as learning more music theory.”

When asked what her favorite things about choir are, Nelson says:

“I really love making music with my friends, anyone can sing alone, but learning how to sing as a group can be more difficult. I think it’s really special that we’re able to come together and sound like one voice.”

Nelson was asked some of the things she is looking forward to this year. She says, “Just having choir as a class is something I look forward to everyday, but I am also really excited for the Chamber singers retreat and ranger choir’s trip to New York next spring.”
