The heat has been a serious health hazard for most sports. Volleyball and football practice times have been moved due to the temperatures.
While training in the gym, the humidity has taken a toll on our fellow Rangers. Madison Aleman, ’22, was concerned when she noticed “a lot of girls getting lightheaded” during practice. Most of the girls would sit down in exhaustion caused by the heat.
Since football practice remains outside, the heat is even worse than in the gym. Aaron Garcia, ’20, and some of the other players thought “when you are playing on the field you don’t really think of the heat.” But the coach and the players became concerned about the possibility of heatstroke.
Marcus Correia, ’22, was very thankful the coach considered their health saying, “…it’s a big concern especially because it’s football and we’re all padded up.” According to Bobby R. Goldsmith, players wear an average of 20 pounds of gear while practicing.
In the past week, temperatures have dropped. Thankfully for our players, it is not much of a health hazard any longer and they can thrive to their full potential without the heat.
