Captain Marvel is a 2019 Superhero Fantasy/Science Fiction Blockbuster (pun intended) film directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The film is a loose adaptation of an origin story about the title character. The film stars Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Jude Law and Ben Mendelsohn.

The film, in its first week, earned $400 million and it has become the sixth film to have a successful opening week like that. Captain Marvel’s film budget was an impressive $152-175 million and it has now earned $981.9 million worldwide!

The plot depicts the story of airforce pilot Carol Danvers who was shot down in a vessel with an experimental engine. Complications with the impact and damage to the engine transferred highly potent energy and incredible powers in addition to extensive comatose amnesia to the pilot. The intergalactic force that shot down her craft recruited her involuntarily into their ranks where she trained and served under the so-called “Kree Empire” with a repurposed identity.

*SPOILER ALERT*

It turns out towards the end of the movie, the Skrulls (the supposed bad guys of the film) are actually victims of war-crimes by the Kree Empire who are actually the bad guys of the film! What a twist! Captain Marvel saves the day and at the end, we see Nick Fury typing up the Avengers initiative after looking at a picture of Carol Danvers before she was Captain Marvel.
