ASB students share their thoughts about preparing and setting up for Love Week.

Love Week is a fun and exciting week for all students at Redwood. Love week contains fun dress-up days, awesome decor around the campus, and more!

A lot of credit goes to ASB students for making Love Week so special and enjoyable for students and teachers.

Setting up the campus starts the week before Love Week actually begins and preparing starts even earlier. ASB President Savannah Torres ‘23 says, “We’ve been preparing for love week for over a month now, coming up with new ideas and especially new ways to involve students on campus, through our campus decor.”

Every part of preparing and setting up for love week is very carefully planned by Ms.Aston, the ASB teacher and ASB students.

Shymari Jackson ‘24 says, “The week before Love Week, we went over our committees, and we talked about different things to help the campus, organize the campus, and what to prepare.”

Although Love Week can seem like an easy week to put together, behind the scenes there is a lot of planning and thought that goes into dress-up days and putting and making hearts for each student around the campus.

Torres ‘23 says, “Making everyone’s hearts, we are a class of 50 kids, and then 2,600 kids on campus; it’s a lot of writing, and then putting our effort into making them look really nice.”

Selecting dress-up days for Love Week was a difficult process this year. At the last minute, ASB students had to change what dress-up days were going to happen. Torres continues, “I think this year was especially hard because a couple dress-up days didn’t get accepted by admin.”

A“It has to be a decision between the whole class and apart from that, it has to get approved by people like our principal. As much as we want to go outside of the box and make it different, we kind of have to stick to what we know…”, says Analexy Alvarado ‘23.

Decorating the campus can be a bit challenging for ASB, since there are many challenges to it.

Torres says, “Love Week being in February, it’s really cold. It’s hard to put up posters because they do get wet.”
Redwood makes sure that students know that it’s not just about romantic love, but by love all around the campus.

Alvarado says, “It’s nice to know that our school is so driven to include everyone and to make sure everybody has a name and everyone feels like they’re loved.”

Even though Love Week has now been happening for the past 5 years, there’s still different and new parts that contribute to making it a wonderful week! Jackson says, “I think it’s the students being more engaged with love week this year, there’s more students that are here, new students and returning students.”

A returning tradition of Love Week is the making of the shirts specifically made to wear on that week. Each year there is a new design and is available to all students and staff for ten dollars.

“Make sure to buy a love week shirt at the finance center,” says Torres.
