Redwood boys soccer kicked off the first playoff round against Liberty on Wednesday, February 16th. They pulled off a win, with it being 3-2. This win allowed them to go onto their next playoff game, which will be against Golden West on Friday, February 18th.

The boys put on a great fight against Liberty. The goals from both teams continued to go back and forth, keeping the fans on their toes.

Jordan Nelson ‘23 says, “Going into the game against Liberty I felt very confident and knew we had what it took to get the win. We were all locked in during warm ups and we knew what we had to do.”

Much of the time they had confidence going into the game. They knew what they had to bring to get the win against Liberty.

Gavin House ‘22 says, “I think that every player stepped up. It is not just a singular player that can allow a team to win so I felt like we did it as a whole. Coach Chica prepared us throughout the week so he also played a large role in the win.”

Going into their next game against Golden West, the boys are aware of what it will take of them to succeed. They have trained, and have become closer as a team.

Angel Montes, ‘23 mentions that his team is hoping to create more chances in the box by distributing and crossing.

“On Friday we plan to play like we always do,” says House. The boys don’t plan on changing many parts of their game, as it has gotten them this far already.

Soccer is a team sport, and Nelson makes a note of that. He says, “The one thing I would like to add is how much we love and believe in each other. This definitely didn’t happen overnight, we’ve had our fair share of ups and downs throughout the season but playing together and gaining trust in one another is definitely the biggest advantage that we have over any team we face.”
